The farmhouse of the Abu Laban family, prosperous Palestinian orange growers, near Petah Tikva. On 15 August 1947 the house was attacked and blown up by the Haganah, the official Zionist military organization (see 296, 297, 298). Twelve occupants, including a mother and six children, were killed. The Palestinians had been quiescent since 1939, and this first major post World War II terrorist attack by the Haganah was an ominous harbinger of later developments. The Haganah was under the command of David Ben-Gurion. (See 394, 409ff.)
