On 11 November 1937 military courts were established for the trial of offenses including the carrying of arms, which was now made punishable by death. Between 1937 and 1939, the British executed by hanging 112 Palestinians under the new law. The robed figure bottom right is Hanna Asfour, Palestinian legal counsel, who had himself been held in a detention camp (see 194, 250).
