The First Delegation in Geneva to attend the Syrian- Palestinian Conference, timed to coincide with the League of Nations' meeting to discuss the proposed Mandatory system. Members of the delegation are seen here with Syrian and Lebanese nationalists, many of whom had been exiled by French authorities. Michel Lutfallah (tall figure, front center), a Christian Lebanese nationalist, presided at the conference. First right, last row, is Riyad al-Sulh, prime minister of independent Lebanon in the 1940s. The conference demanded the independence and federation of Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine.
